The area of Japan is 377,873 square kilometers, nearly equivalent to Germany and Switzerland combined or slightly smaller than California. Ukiyo-e

	Ukiyo literally means a gaily spirited world, and ukiyo-e are wood-block prints depicting this world. They were originally produced in the Edo era (from 17th to the 19th century), and they provide a dramatic insight into the customs, the people and the scenery of that era.
