Takegawa Hot Springs

Oita, Kyushu

Takegawara Onsen (Hot spring) was built in 1879. It has been renovated a few times since then. The wooden roof was built in 1902 and has been a symbolic bath house for Beppu hot spring resort. There are sand baths too. It is worth experiencing at least once. It is one of its oldest and most renowned. Even if you don’t go inside, the distinctive and traditional building alone is worth a visit. It features two types of baths: a regular bath and sand bath. Just take care when getting in! The water is hot, even for an onsen.
