Activities

JNTO is involved in a broad range of activities to encourage foreign tourists to visit Japan both domestically and overseas.

Our activities include:

    1. Promotion of tourism to Japan
    2. Operation of Tourist Information Center in Japan for foreign visitors
    3. Administration of Guide-interpreter examination
    4. Publication of tourism statistics and market reports
    5. Providing support for international conventions and incentive events

Activities by Overseas Offices

JNTO maintains 14 offices in key cities around the world, through which a wide range of tourism-related promotions are carried out. Each overseas office is responsible for promoting travel and tourism to Japan; one of the most important functions is to help the travel industry encourage their clients to visit Japan.

The activities of the overseas JNTO offices include:

    1. Providing up-to-date information on travel to and within Japan through internet, free brochures and maps
    2. Placing publicity in the media and cooperation with journalists
    3. Participating in travel fairs and exhibitions
    4. Assisting the local travel industry in developing tours
    (example: joint publicity campaign with travel agents / airlines)
    5. Supplying necessary information for organizers of conventions, meetings and incentive events
    6. Conducting tourism-related research
