Experience a city through art
Towada Art Center was opened in the spring of 2008 as a central fixture of the Arts Towada Project, a city-wide initiative with the aim of rejuvinating the Towada city center through art. The various indoor and outdoor exhibits incorporate local history, as well as the surrounding natural beauty. The result is an art style unique to Towada. Towada is a city that aspires to inspire artistic creativity, both at home and abroad.
Towada Art Center’s permanent exhibit holds a total of 38 works by 33 critically acclaimed international artists such as Yoko Ono, Ron Mueck, and Choi Jeong Hwa. Of the permanent collection, 25 works by 22 artists are located inside while the other 13 are located outside at the adjacent Art Square.
Most of the exhibits are large art installations which are displayed in specifically designed rooms that are connected by glass corridors. Visitors might feel as if they’re outdoors while indoors on account of the museum’s airy, open architecture, which amplifies the natural light with its white walls and large glass windows. The permanent collection is just one of the museum’s many attractions. It also displays large-scale, seasonal exhibits and holds several events throughout the year.
Come and experience an all new generation of museum; one where art and architecture combine to create an unforgettable adventure in creativity and expression.
