Wakayama Adventure World
A mega theme park with a safari park, aquarium and amusement park combined in one facility
Wakayama Adventure World is a mega theme park, a complex facility combining the safari park zoo, aquarium and amusement park. The main feature of the park is Panda Land, where giant pandas are kept and shown. You can not only see the somewhat humorous regular lives of giant pandas, but also the loveable behavior of mother pandas and cubs playing in the baby-raising season. The safari tour on "Kenya," an exclusive vehicle that drives around the vast grounds and lets you observe free-range animals, is also a popular activity. You can watch tropical animals, such as Malayan tapirs, giraffes, cheetahs, and rhinoceroses, during the 25 minute-trip.
Events enabling you to get familiar with marine mammals are held in Marine Wave. There are various other facilities as well, including Penguin Kingdom, Center Dome, and Sea Animals Museum, where you can see polar bears and sea otters, and Red Wood Images, where you can touch parrots and monkeys. Various interactive activities are offered, and you can ride not only horses and ponies but even elephants. Because there are so many spots to see, you will definitely need more than a day to look around the entire facility. The facility is open at night for a limited season. Night visits are highly recommended because you can see the active behavior of nocturnal animals, as well as shows and events only held at night.
