Yutoku Inari-jinja Shrine

Yutoku Inari-jinja, located in the city of Kashima, Saga Prefecture, is one of the largest Inari-jinja (shrines sacred to the god of business prosperity), ranking alongside Fushimi Inari-jinja in Kyoto and Kasama Inari-jinja in Ibaraki. It was build in 1687 to enshrine a spirit from the Inari-jinja located within the Kyoto Palace, which was granted to Nabeshima Naotomo, the ruler of this area, for his wedding. It is venerated as home to the guardian deity of plentiful harvests, prosperity in business, and protection from automobile accidents, and is visited by thousands of visitors every year. Higashi-yama Koen, a park making up the outer garden of the shrine, is known for the splendor of its azaleas.
