Mihama American Village
A huge seaside town resort where you can feel the atmosphere of West Coast U.S.A.
Mihama American Village, in Mihama District, Chatan Town, in the southern part of Okinawa Island is a large-scale resort town, where facilities including stores, restaurants, large supermarkets, and amusement facilities such as a cinema and indoor swimming pools, are all gathered in one place. The idea for this village, built on a former U.S. Forces airfield, came from Seaport Village, a shopping mall in San Diego, U.S.A. As the name shows, the place is brimming with the atmosphere of West Coast U.S.A. You can have fun, eat and enjoy shopping as much as you like in a space with a tropical atmosphere, with a salty breeze blowing through palm trees and brick pathways.
There are many spots here that you will definitely want to visit: American Depot A, B, and C Buildings, which are a collection of America-themed stores selling articles disposed of by the U.S. Forces; Depot Island, where you can eat various kinds of fusion food; and Carnival Park Mihama, which is full of unique variety goods stores and cafes. You can also have a relaxing time watching the sea at nearby Sunset Beach, which is famous for beautiful sunsets.
Sky Max 60, a giant Ferris wheel, is the landmark of the area. It provides a spectacular view 60 m above ground. The entire Mihama District looks like a miniature garden from here, and you have a birds-eye view of the area, including the East China Sea.
