A prefecture blessed by various natural surroundings, including abundant onsen resorts, beautiful natural landscapes and outdoor activities. Sericulture development also mean to the prosperity of textile and heritages expecting to be registered as a World Heritage.

Situated to the northwest of the Kanto Plains, Gunma boasts various fine onsen resorts frequented by tourist all year round. Kusatsu Onsen is known for its traditional "Yumomi" (hot spring stirring) dance and rich "Yubatake" (field of hot water); Ikaho Onsen is lined with souvenir shops and accommodations along stone stairway; Shima Onsen located in a quiet atmosphere has been loved by visitots who desires to relax with onsen; and Minakami Onsen Area with various onsen resorts provides both onsen and outdoor activities.
 
In modern times, the sericulture industry flourished in the prefecture by the establishment of Tomioka Silk Mill and, as a result, textile towns such as Kiryu and Isedaki prospered.

Gunma is also blessed with other places known for their scenic beauty. Across the prefectural borders with Niigata, Fukushima and Tochigi lies Ozegahara, an elevated marshland. Yugama is a crater lake of Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane-san with unique emerald green water; magnificent Mt. Tanigawa-dake is equipped with a ropeway that guides visitors to the summit; and Watarase Valley affords a magnificent view of nature from a slow-moving sightseeing train.

From Tokyo:
50 min to Takasaki Station by JR Jo'etsu/Nagano Shinkansen Line, and 15 min from Takasaki to Maebashi Station by JR Ryomo Line.

 

From Osaka:
2h 30 min from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo Station by JR Tokaido Shinkansen Line.
