Volcanic Activity in Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane (Gunma Prefecture)

On Jan 23, 2018 at 11:50 (UTC +9:00), Japan Meteorological Agency pronounced and raised Volcanic Alert Level at Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane to Level 3 (Do not approach the volcano) from Level 1 (Normal).

There is a possibility that the eruption will occur and the 2km radius area around crater is the cautionary zone for danger of falling rocks.

Onsen areas such as Kusatsu Onsen Town and Manza Onsen Area are outside of the restricted area, and the facilities in these areas are open as usual.

On Mar 16, 2018, JMA pronounced and downgratded Volcanic Alert Level at Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane to Level 2 (Do not approach the crater) from Level 3.
