What is Tsukiji Hongan-ji Noryo Bon Odori Taikai
Tsukiji Hongan-ji Noryo Bon Odori Taikai is a large-scale event, where eighty thousand people visit in the four days in the summer festival of the Tsukiji area. The premises of Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple is surrounded by people dancing to live drum performances of Bon Odori. Visitors can join the costume competition without fee. Also, a lot of food stalls served by eateries near Tsukiji are one of enjoyment.
History of Tsukiji Hongan-ji Noryo Bon Odori Taikai
Tsukiji Hongan-ji was built as a bishop in Nishi Honganji temple in Kyoto in 1617. The present main hall is completed in 1934 with an appearance imitating the ancient Indian Buddhist style.
In 2014, the main hall, the stone fence, the Sanmon gate (main gate, North gate, South Gate) were designated as the important cultural properties of the country. Furthermore, in 2017, Tsukiji Hongan-ji made extensive maintenance of the precincts to make it easier for more people to visit.
History of the Bon Odori convention has been old, and as of now, it is on its 71st year (2018).
What to expect from Tsukiji Hongan-ji Noryo Bon Odori Taikai

The menu also includes Yakitori, BBQ, Karaage, Motsu Nikomi: stewed pork intestines, Tamagoyaki, Japanese Rolled Omelette, Morokoshi-age (Corn Tempura), Yaki, Ika-yaki (squid BBQ), Hotate-yaki (scallops BBQ), Maguro-menchi (minced tuna),and Ika geso Variety.
The traditional Tanko-bushi, Okosa-bushi, local songs Tsukiji-ondo and Tokyo-ondo Bon dancing, which has been passed down for many years and has been popular, is played extensively. In accordance with these songs, you can enjoy peace of mind for the first time with the example of a master who dances on the tower.
When it is held
It is held from late July to early August every year for 4 days. The festival starts at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm everyday (6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Saturdays).
The costume convention is held on the third day of the year.
