An oasis in the sky, featuring a magical world that's fun for all the family

Located on the rooftop of the World Import Mart in Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City complex, the Sunshine Aquarium reopened in August 2011 after being remodeled around the concept of an “oasis in the sky.” Attractions include the gigantic Sunshine Lagoon tank, which holds approximately 240 tons of water, the Jelly Fish Tunnel, and tanks in which ocean sunfish swim elegantly, so a visit to this magical world is bound to make you feel more tranquil and relaxed. A total of around 37,000 fish from about 750 species are displayed in 80 or so tanks, where visitors can not only view the ever-popular sea otters and penguins, as well as such rare creatures as the Southern Tamandua, but also watch female divers feeding the fish in the big tank.

Outside, a donut-shaped tank called the Sunshine Aqua Ring is suspended overhead, making the sea lions and penguins swimming through it look as though they are swimming in the sky. In addition, there are many events, including a fish circus and a sea lion show. This facility is both educational and entertaining, providing amusement while allowing you to observe the activities of a diverse array of creatures, so it’s fun for all the family, no matter how young or old you might be.
