Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan

Osaka, Kansai

This is one of the largest aquariums in the world, famous for its gigantic whale sharks. After entering the building, walk through the tunnel-shaped “Aqua Gate” water tank, take the escalator up to the “Japan Forest” on the top floor, and then follow the suggested route and descend a spiral slope, viewing each tank along the way. Some water tanks are designed to display the fish not only from below the water but also from above, so you can see the fish swimming as if they were flying. Whale sharks swim slowly just like submarines in a huge water tank 9 meters deep and 34 meters long filled with 5,400 tons of water. If you find that you’re hungry, pop up to the restaurant where you can also enjoy the ocean view. You might be in time to see the exquisite sunset over Osaka Port. Don’t forget to take a picture with the replica of a whale shark at the souvenir photograph corner.
