JR yufuin station (由布院駅) was built in 1990. The architect who built this station is Arata Isozaki. It is a unique station, because it has a footbath in the back of platform number 1. A towel is given to you when you use the footbath. The Art Hall is a meeting area as well as an art gallery. At the station, you can get sightseeing pamphlets and rent out bicycles. The roads to Lake Kinrin (金鱗湖) are great bike riding courses. There are also breathtaking traditional Japanese scenic spots such as the Bussanji temple (佛山寺) area with old stone pavement and the Unakihime Shrine (宇奈岐日女神社) area with beautiful cedar trees. Horse carriages and British classic cars called “Scarborough” arrive at and depart from the station.
