Hyogo / Catholic Himeji Church

Himeji Church was established Honmachi, the center of Himeji City, in 1949 by Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae, which has its headquarters in Belgium. Catholic Himeji Church (Xavier Building/former cathedral) started as a parish of the Catholic Osaka Archdiocese. Following this, the new cathedral was dedicated in 1972 and has continued as a church opened to the public since then. The patron saint of Himeji Church is Francis Xavier.
Himeji church is a World Heritage Site, located immediately east of the national treasure Himeji Castle in the special historical area of Himeji Castle. Catholic Himeji Church can be seen when looking down in the east direction from the castle tower.
