Experience the lives and cultures of people around the world at one of the world's largest museums of ethnology

The museum displays about 12,000 items of daily life, such as ethnic costumes collected from all over the world and tools. Videos introduce rituals and performing arts. The museum's permanent exhibition covers nine world regions, and cross-cultural exhibitions introduce music and language. Special exhibits are sometimes held.

How to Get There

The museum is located within Expo Memorial Park , which is easily accessed by train.

From Umeda Station, take the Midosuji subway line to Senri-Chuo Station. From there, transfer to the Osaka Monorail, and go to Bampaku-Kinen-Koen Station. Exit the station and enter the park.

The National Museum of Ethnology is a research institute for cultural anthropology and ethnology as well as a graduate school. It has a collection of about 345,000 items, including daily utensils and ethnic costumes, collected by researchers around the world.

The museum offers Ph.D. courses in association with Japan's Inter-University of Advanced Graduate Studies

A day of exploration

The National Museum of Ethnology is located within the vast Expo Memorial Park , which is also home to the Japan Folk Crafts Museum Osaka, a Japanese garden, the famed Tower of the Sun, and much more. Consider spending either half a day or a whole day strolling through the park and exploring the surrounding facilities.
