Old Samurai Residences and Gardens-
In the Fumoto district, there is a street of old samurai residences and gardens built in the later part of the Edo Period that are steeped in the atmosphere of the age. Seven of these gardens have been designated by the national government as places of scenic beauty.
Chiran Tea-
Known for its superb balance between taste, color and fragrance, Chiran tea has won numerous top prizes and become established as a superior brand at the All Japan Tea Fair, which is held in a different location across the country every year. During the months of May through September, visitors can take part in a participation-type program and try their hand at tea picking and tea rolling.
Neputa Festival in Chiran-
Inspired by descriptions of the Neputa Festival held in Aomori Prefecture provided by high school students from Aomori on a youth exchange program, this is the Kyushu Chiran version of thee festival. Every year on the third Saturday in July, visitors to Chiran can fully savor the vigorous sight of a procession of inspiring Neputa floats in the middle of summer.
