Kanazawa (Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Pref.)

Kanazawa was constructed as a castle town by the Maeda clan over a period of 280 years. Because the city escaped damage due to wars, the historical street scenes still remain, even today. In addition to Kanazawa Castle and Kenroku Park, there is the Sandaichaya-machi (a geisha enclave with teahouses where geisha perform), and an old structure called the Tera-machi Jiingun (Tera-machi Temple Complex).

Traditional handicrafts like gold leaf and the Kaga Yuzen dyeing process are still being passed on in Kanazawa today, and some facilities have participation-type programs for visitors. In addition, housed in a unique circular building, the '21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa' provides ready access to contemporary works of art.

In addition to guidance boards throughout the city with support in four languages (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean), tourist pamphlets are available in six languages (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French and German) and access to the Kanazawa Goodwill Network is also available in English and other languages, providing further support for welcoming foreign tourists.
