JR Surcharge Tickets
 In
addition to the basic fare, a surcharge is required for travel on express trains,
limited express trains and Shinkansen bullet trains. An additional surcharge is
applied to seats in a "Green Car" (first class) or for overnight sleeping compartments.
Unlike basic-fare tickets, surcharges are good only for one continuous ride. If
your client wishes to break the journey, he/she must purchase separate surcharge
tickets for each additional train taken. If, for example, your client wishes to
travel from Kanazawa to Matsue, with a stopover in Tottori, he/she need purchase
only one basic-fare ticket but must pay a separate surcharge for Kanazawa to Tottori
and another surcharge from Tottori to Matsue.
