BUDGET TRAVEL
Though Japan has a reputation for being pricey, even travelers on a budget can see the country without spending a fortune. Everyone appreciates the fact that there is no tipping in Japan, which means that even taxi drivers and waiters do not expect tips (waitresses have been known to chase down customers who leave money on the table). And as an added bonus, some tourist regions in Japan offer what's called a Welcome Card to foreign visitors, with discounts in transportation, restaurants, shops, and sightseeing facilities as well. They're available for free at participating local tourist offices.
