Chikurin-ji Temple

Kochi, Shikoku

Chikurin-ji, located in the city of Kochi in Kochi Prefecture, has been known affectionately for centuries as Monju-sama. This refers to the Bosatsu (Bodhisattva) which in Buddhism presides over wisdom, and thus it attracts peoples veneration as a temple of learning. Monju-do in the Main Hall has been designated an Important Cultural Property by the Japanese government. The temple also has many different features including a garden said to have been designed by the noted priest Muso Soseki, a reminder to visitors of its long history.’
