At the foot of Mt. Tanigawa-dake which holds perpetual snow, seasonal fun can be enjoyed through various onsen resorts and outdoor activities.
Minakami Onsen Area is located in the northern part of Gunma. Minakami Area holds a wide spectrum of onsens which have different characteristics in spring quality.
The town of Minakami, which commands very fine views of Mt. Tanigawa-dake, Mt. Hotaka-san, and Mt. Shibutsu-san, has several scenic spots such as Lake Fujiwara-ko, Lake Dogen-ko, and Lake Okutone-ko. Among them, Lake Okutone-ko provides a good place for lake canoe. Adventurous visitors can also enjoy outdoor sports such as rafting, canyoning, and bungy jumping.
Mt. Tanigawa-dake belongs to Joshinetsu National Park. It consists of two peaks, Tomano-mimi and Okino-mimi, and used to be called "Sojiho", which means "two ears". Visitor can enjoy the scenic grandeur of the Tanigawa Mountain Range from the window of the Tanigawa-dake ropeway.
[Rail] 1h 20 min to Jomo-Kogen Station by JR Joetsu Shinkansen, and 10 min from the station to Minakami Onsen by bus. And 50 min from Jomo-Kogen Station to Tanigawa Ropeway by bus.
[Rail] 2h 30 min from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo Station by JR Tokaido Shinkansen.
