Suigo Sawara Aquatic Botanical Garden
Co-starring 1.5 million irises, and 300 types of lotus!
Suigo Sawara Aquatic Botanical Garden was created from the waters and green environment of the Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-National Park. It opened in 1969. Among its various botanical plants spread over 6 hectares, its most notable flowers are what is said to be the largest collection of irises in Asia, and a rich variety of lotus plants.
In the iris garden from April to May, about 100,000 Blood Irises and Rabbit-ear Irises bloom, with 400 types of 1.5 million iris flowers. In July, lotus flowers take the stage. Over 300 types of lotus are grown. There are many rare types, and you can enjoy as many colors of lotus as your heart desires.
In addition to iris and lotus, early May is the best time to see its Wisteria flowers with their subtle fragrances. The Wisteria flower stand is 100 meters long! Anyone would be surprised by its huge size. From late April to June, you can also ride a "Fresh Boat" that looks like a bamboo leaf, on the unique Suigo canal that winds through the gardens.
