A fairytale-like plateau where a yellow field of flowers spreads out before you
Kisuge Plateau is located in the middle of Nikko Kirifuri Highland, and is known as a beautiful grassland where day lilies grow in colonies. The Day lily is a one-day flower that blossoms in the morning and wilts by the evening. So, it is at its best in the middle of the day. From late June to mid July, several tens of thousands of day lilies blossom and turn the field pale yellow; a fantastic sight. In addition, you can see high-altitude plants, such as meadow rue, which is found only in Japan, and Japanese dog's tooth violet, with lovely flowers, here and there. Moreover, from here you have a panoramic view of the Kanto Plains from Kisuge Plateau, 1,600 m above sea level. Depending on the weather, you can see as far as Mt. Fuji as well as the celestial scenery of clouds spreading like the sea. If you visit Kirifuri Highland, make sure to check out this lovely view.
A facility that is encouraging for hikers is a highland house where tourist information and maps of the whole area of Kirifuri Highland as well as computers to provide tourist information are available to any person for free. There are also a multipurpose washroom and a snack and tea space. It is recommended to use the facility for various purposes, for example, visiting there before or after hiking to make plans and have a rest to heal your tired body.
