Kochi Kenritsu Bijutsukan (Art Museum)
Kochi
Kochi Kenritsu Bijutsukan is located near the spot where two rivers, the Kokubu-gawa and the Funaire-gawa, meet in the eastern part of the city of Kochi. This museum was opened in November 1994, built around the concept of a space to nurture a greater appreciation of water. The traditional exterior design of the building includes white stucco walls and a black tile roof, in order to blend in with the historical feeling of the surrounding town. The collection here includes Stellas The Pequod Meets the Rosebud, Schnabel's Untitled (Lola), Kiefer's Athanor and Tadanori Yoko's Tensei (Reborn Mind). Also housed and exhibited here are many works by artists who have a close association with Kochi Prefecture.'
