Stroll along streets lined with buildings from centuries past

Only about 30 minutes from central Tokyo, the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is a showcase of moved, preserved, and reconstructed buildings from the 17th to the 20th centuries. Offering a fascinating insight into Tokyo's past, buildings on display include teahouses and bathhouses to private residential homes of famous people.

How to Get There

The Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is in Koganei Park, which is around 30 minutes from central Tokyo by train.

From Shinjuku Station, take the JR Chuo Line and get off at Musashi-Koganei Station. You can also take the Seibu Shinjuku Line and get off at Hana-Koganei Station. Buses going to Koganei Park West Gate can be found at either station.

Take an architectural amble

The museum is divided into three zones, some of which are reconstructed townscapes. Visiting each zone is like slipping into a different era. Feel free to explore the streets and go into the buildings.

Whereas other museums prohibit the use of photo and video-recording devices, you can take pictures and videos on the premises with just a few exceptions.
