There are oldest merchants'houses and storehouses in Japan in this area. House of Kusano Head Family (草野本家) was built during Genroku period, and is the oldest merchants'house in oita prefecture. Valuable items such as dolls and flags from Edo period are displayed here. Tenryo Hita Museum (天領日田資料館) have exhibitions with the theme of culture of commoners in Tenryo Hita.
