Uwajima Castle
Ehime
The military commander Todo Takatora, a well-known expert in castle-building, began construction on Uwajima Castle (Uwajima-jo) in 1596. It took around six years to complete the donjon and related structures. The donjon, designated an Important Cultural Property, has three-tiers and is about 15.8 m high from the foundation to the ridge of the roof. The triangular gables on the roof at the front of harmonize well with the white walls, giving the donjon an imposing appearance. Other castle structures, such as the turret, remain just as they were in the old days.
