Comment The famous Zen priest Takuan spent more than three years in this thatched hut, gifted to him by Toki Yoriyuki, lord of Kamiyama Castle. There, the priest taught poetry, tea ceremony and kendo. By doing this, Takuan helped strengthen the national standing of local politicians. The thatched hut was later moved to the Tokai-ji Temple in Tokyo's Shinagawa district, and a copy of the original constructed in 1953. Yamagata Prefecture has designated this copy of the original building a cultural asset.
