The Important Intangible Cultural
Asset "Kurokawa-Noh" is a ritualistic form of Noh handed
down from generation to generation among devotees of the Kasuga
Jinja Shrine in Kurokawa, Kushibiki-cho, Yamagata. Around 250 local
families, divided into Upper and Lower guilds, sometimes competing
with each other, have preserved this tradition. Kurokawa-Noh, which
currently has 160 actors, 230 masks, 400 costumes (of which three
are National Treasures and 21 have been designated heritage objects
by the Prefecture) and a large repertoire of 540 Noh and 50 Kyogen
plays, is renowned as a major tradition of folk entertainment representing
not only Yamagata but Japan as a whole. Please make a reservation
to view this unique Noh performance. |
