Comment The Zuiryu-ji temple, formally known as Soutou-shu Takaokasan Zuiryu-ji, was built in 1663 by Maeda Toshitsune, the third lord of the Kaga clan, in memory of the second lord Maeda Toshinaga. The architecture of the temple, which took twenty years to complete, is of the typical "garan" style (used in the arrangement of Buddhist temple buildings), imported from China and dominant throughout the country during the Kamakura Period. The main gate, second gate, main sanctuary and auditorium are arranged in a straight line, while the meditation house and administration office with kitchen are symmetrically arranged to the sides. A long corridor connects the surrounding buildings, creating a solemn, orderly atmosphere reminiscent of a castle. The second gate, main sanctuary and auditorium are designated National Treasures.
