Comment Tokushima was home to Bandoh Jurobe, a famous puppeteer in a region renowned for its puppet theater. Bandoh's residence was used as a model for "Keisei Awano Naruto", the most important work of the Awa Ningyo Joruri puppet theater. Dating back about 300 years, the residence and its gardens retain some of the flavor of the Edo Period. A Ningyo Joruri stage is set up in the grounds and plays are performed there periodically. A museum within the residence contains some of Bandoh's belongings and numerous Awa Deku puppets.
