Yasugi-bushi is a popular folk
dance accompanied by song, that originated in Yasugi-shi, Shimane.
Its tradition has been preserved by the Yasugi-bushi Preservation
Association, founded in 1911. So far, 8,500 members have joined
the association, whose branches now appear in seventy locations
throughout the country, including Tokyo, Eastern Japan, Osaka, Matsuyama,
Hiroshima, Yamaguchi etc. The association organizes a national Yasugi-bushi
competition, which is held annually for three days from August 15th
to 17th in Yasugi-shi. |
