The Nikka Whiskey Sendai Brewery enjoys an ideally suited environment for storing and maturing its products. It is located in a rich, green stretch of land between the Hirose and Niigawa rivers about 30 minutes' drive from Sendai. As of 2000, the plant has combined production of regular malt whiskey with the production of cafe grain whiskey. Combining the two processes is rare throughout the world. Trained guides are always on hand. After a tour of the plant lasting about thirty minutes, visitors may sample the beverages. A restaurant and a shop selling original products are available. The vicinity offers many other points of interest. A hot-springs spa is located nearby. To the west, National Highway 48 crosses the prefectural line to reach Tone, in Yamagata Prefecture famous for cherries and for numerous mountain temples. Making reservations a day in advance minimizes waiting times.
