Comment Famous for his unusual name of "Dokuganryu (the one-eyed dragon)", Date Masamune, the first head of the Date clan, lived through a difficult period from the end of what is known as the "Warring States Period" of civil war to the beginning of the Edo Period. His reward for this hard life was to become very wealthy. Masamune decided to live the rest of his life in Kyogamine, and asked to be buried there. Masamune's body therefore lies in magnificent splendor within the Otamaya Zuihoden among a thick grove of cedars.
