Comment This shrine and garden sit amid the deep woods of Misugi-mura, a village located in the midwest of Mie Prefecture. The Kitabatake family, whose reign over the old Ise region lasted for approximately 240 years from the Nanbokucho to the Muromachi Period, built their residence in this location. The family was later killed by Oda Nobunaga and their residence and surrounding town burnt to the ground.
The garden of the residence, all that remained, now quietly reminds visitors of the family's past prosperity, amid the surrounding peace of the mountains.
