This museum with its exclusive
collection of lacquer art is located in Wajima, a town renowned
for its beautiful lacquer crafts. The museum building resembles
the Shosoin treasure house and is surrounded by a spacious garden,
creating a serene atmosphere. Besides local Wajima-nuri lacquerware,
the domestic collection ranges from past to present masterpieces
created by various lacquer artists, including Living National Treasures
and members of the Japan Art Academy. Visitors can also study lacquer
culture worldwide, especially using the collection here assembled
from all over Asia. A variety of special exhibitions held at regular
intervals ensure that each visit offers something new. |
