Comment Japan's indigenous Ainu people have lived closely with nature for centuries. Their respect for the land is visible in their dances, which reflect the contrasting aspects of their life: for example hunting vs. playing, and happiness vs. sadness. Akan's old-style Ainu dance has been handed down since ancient times and has been designated an Important Intangible Cultural Asset. Besides watching the dance, you can try woodcarving, embroidery and other crafts for yourself under the guidance of Ainu-kotan instructors.
