Shogawa-kyo Valley庄川峡

The Shogawa Valley is created by the erosion of the Hida-kogen Highlands by the Sho-gawa River, which has its source in Mt. Eboshi-dake. In the olden days, the valley was used as a route to carry out the timber cut from Hida and Gokayama. Between the Komaki Dam and the Omaki-onsen Hot Spring run cruise boats that let you enjoy a one-hour round trip through the valley. Various sceneries of each season, which you can enjoy from the boat, are there to relax your soul and mind. The colorful cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn leaves are especially beautiful and attract many visitors.

At the Shogawa-onsen-kyo, a hot spring village where hot-spring inns are spotted along the rich limpid stream of the Sho-gawa River, you can enjoy tasting sweetfish or other fresh specialties, in addition to taking a soak in the hot spring to relax after the day's journey. Shogawa-machi Mizu Kinen Park (Water Memorial Park) has a huge fountain that spurts water up to 36 meters high and many other types of water, while a number of local wooden products are exhibited for sightseers.
