Himi氷見

Dine on a wide variety of cold or warm current fish. Magnificent view of Tateyama Mountain Range that seems to "float" behind Toyama Bay.

Himi is located in the northwestern part of Toyama and faces Toyama Bay to the east with the north and west sides bordering Ishikawa, with Mt. Isurugi-yama and other mountains in between.

Himi is close to the point where warm and cold currents run against each other. For that reason, fishing has always been a large part of Himi's industry. Around Himi Port, the fish markets and the fish wholesalers stand side by side, and you can always get fresh seafood there. In the neighboring Unami Port, there are sightseeing boats where you can experience net fishing using a net that is 300 meters long and 90 meters wide. You can also enjoy a magnificent view of Toyama Bay and the Tateyama Mountain Range aboard.

The Himi City Seaside Botanical Garden ("Aroma Garden"), facing Naga-hama Beach in Matsudae (one of Japan's best 100 beaches), is a unique botanical garden that specializes in seaside plants. This type of botanical garden is rarely seen anywhere else in Japan. The garden exhibits not only Japan's largest reproduction of a mangrove forest but also bougainvillea, hibiscus, and other colorful seaside plants, along with many examples of world insects that are closely related to plants.

Junicho-gata Suigo-koen Park is a city park that takes advantage of its precious history and natural resources. In this park, you can visit the Junicho-gata Lagoon, the home of water lilies, which have been designated a nation's protected species. You can also learn about aquatic animals and plants such as Itasennpara, carp that live only in a limited area in Japan.
