Ryukyu Glass

Glass craft is believed to have started in Okinawa in the middle of the Meiji era. The color and shape of each item of hand-blown Ryukyu glass has a subtle, almost imperceptible difference and you can feel the inherent warmth that is absent from industrial products. Ryukyu glass was designated as a traditional craft of Okinawa-ken in 1998.
The recommended shopping location is "Ryukyu Glass Craft", the largest glass factory in Okinawa. It is situated in Itoman-shi 30 minutes from Naha Airport by car. Prices are reasonable because the shop is managed directly by the factory. Pop into an outlet to view the products - you can even try glass-blowing! From drinking glasses and plates to figurines and watches, you're sure to find exciting souvenirs.
