All category 1 to 3 tourist information offices display this symbol
In Japan, the private and public sectors have made various efforts to increase the number of foreign visitors to Japan. To make the environment even more welcoming for these visitors from overseas, JNTO and the Japan Tourism Agency started a new certification program for foreign tourist information, approving 342 qualified tourist information offices throughout Japan. The certification program divides these offices into three categories based on function and includes a three-year renewal program to ensure ongoing quality improvement. Better tourist information results in more convenient and reliable services for foreign visitors.Category 1 tourist information offices provide local information (on the cities and prefectures where they are located plus the surrounding areas), while Category 2 offices provide broad-based information on two or more prefectures. Category 3 offices provide information on the whole of Japan. Category 3 tourist information offices are also open seven days a week, offering reliable foreign language services in English, Chinese, and Korean. Visitors can use computers and Wi-Fi as well. The services offered by category 1 and 2 tourist information offices vary, so visitors should check the information page for office for business hours, foreign language services, computer access, Wi-Fi, and other amenities. In addition to the three categories, the certification program recognizes “Partner Facilities” that are eager to bring in foreign visitors and provide fair and balanced local information—even if they are not dedicated tourist information offices. We invite you to visit our approved tourist information offices and Partner Facilities nationwide. Have a pleasant stay in Japan!
