Some local airports in Japan handle domestic and international flights. If you want to go for skiing in Hokkaido during winter or visit resorts in Okinawa during summer, a direct flight is more convenient. Most international flights to local airports are from Asian cities.
 

Hokkaido: New Chitose Airport

Located approximately 50 km from the city of Sapporo, it is the "north gateway of Japan." This airport is easy to access from other airports in Hokkaido.

International regular flights:
Guam, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Seoul, Pusan, Beijing, Dalian, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei
 

Hokkaido: Hakodate Airport

This airport is located on a plateau along the sea shoreline and about 10 km east from a famous tourist spot, the city of Hakodate.

International regular flights:
Seoul
 

Hokkaido: Asahikawa Airport

This airport is one of the gateways to Hokkaido, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Daisetsu mountains.

International regular flights:
Seoul
 

Miyagi: Sendai Airport

This airport is about 15 km southeast from the city of Sendai, the biggest city in the Tohoku area.

International regular flights:
Guam, Seoul, Beijing, Changchun, Dalian, Shanghai, Taipei
 

Fukushima: Fukushima Airport

This airport is located next to the Fukushima Airport park, which has a green tract of land, a Japanese garden, an observation deck, an athletic field, an event space, etc.,.

Seoul, Shanghai
 

Niigata: Niigata Airport

This airport is located near the coast of the city of Niigata and it has become a gateway into Japan from countries near the Japan Ocean such as Russia, China, and Korea.

International regular flights:
Guam, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Seoul, Harbin, Shanghai
 

Tokyo: Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport)

This airport is located close to downtown Tokyo, which saves time for traveling from the airport to the city.

International regular flights:
Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong
 

Toyama: Toyama Airport

This airport is located 7 km from the heart of the city of Toyama and has an attractive view of the beautiful Tateyama mountains of the Japanese North Alps.

International regular flights:
Vladivostok, Seoul, Dalian, Shanghai
 

Ishikawa: Komatsu Airport

This airport is located in the heart of the Hokuriku area, southwest in Ishikawa.

International regular flights:
Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei
 

Hiroshima: Hiroshima Airport

This airport is located about 50 minutes by limousine ride from the city of Hiroshima and is an important airport for the Chugoku and Shikoku areas.

International regular flights:
Guam, Bangkok, Seoul, Beijing, Dalian, Shanghai, Taipei
 

Tottori: Yonago Airport

This airport is located in the center of the beautiful Yumiga-hama peninsula where Japanese mythology still remains.

International regular flights:
Seoul
 

Kagawa: Takamatsu Airport

This airport is located about 15 km south of the city of Takamatsu. There is a bus service to a tourist spot, Kotohira (Konpira Shrine).

Seoul
 

Ehime: Matsuyama Airport

A famous Japanese novel, “Botchan” written by the great writer, Soseki Natsume, unfolded in the town of Matsuyama. The city (JR Matsuyama station) is located about 15 minutes by limousine ride from the airport.

Fukuoka: Fukuoka Airport

This airport is an air gateway of Kyushu. Transportation is very convenient because it is connected with the subway system.

Guam, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, Pusan Cheju-do, Beijing, Shenyang, Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Wuhan
 

Kumamoto: Kumamoto Airport

The active volcano, Mt. Aso, one of the largest caldera volcanoes in the world, is about 1 hours by bus-ride from this airport.

International regular flights:
Seoul
 

Miyazaki: Miyazaki Airport

This airport is about 20 minutes by car to downtown Miyazaki. Trains are also available from JR Miyazaki Airport Station.

Seoul, Taipei
 

Kagoshima: Kagoshima Airport

This airport is located about 28 km northeast of the city of Kagoshima, on the plateau of Jusanrizuka-hara with a panoramic view of the Kirishima mountains and Sakurajima.

International regular flights:
Seoul, Shanghai
 

Okinawa: Naha Airport

This airport is surrounded by deep blue ocean on three sides, with a beautiful sub-tropical environment unique to Okinawa.

International regular flights:
Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei
